  Castelan took over a business from Homeserve, to administer , amongst others, warranties on furniture sold by Harveys. In my opinion, they will do anything they can to avoid having to pay out on a warranty. I bought a leather sofa from Harveys in February 2013 and in January 2014, less than a year, I noticed wear on part of the back/head cushion. I reported it to Harveys who passed me on to Castelan. A technician came, who prodded the area with his fingers and said it was wet! Unbelievable! He used no equipment to come to his decision. He said my head was wet/sweaty which had caused the problem. Im not a sweaty person. I pointed out wear further down which was where my back was resting. He ignored that! I said I thought it was a manufacturing fault. He ignored that. He left. I got a letter from Castelan saying they would do nothing and to contact Harveys again. I contacted Harveys and surprisingly, they said he had not followed procedures and they would contact Castelan to organise a repair. I had already tested the sofa with a moisture detector,which gave a negative result and looked up Sales of Goods Act just in case. A new leather outer has been fitted and so far so good, but its only been a month. Im keeping an eye out for wear and I am not going to put a cover on as suggested by the fitter! The fitter again repeated the Castelan mantra about me having a sweaty head. In my opinion it is something they have been told to say to try and get out of paying out on a warranty. Do NOT let Castelan fob you off with some bollox like they tried to with me. Remember companies like Harveys have to sell products that are fit for purpose under the Sale of Goods Act. So you would not expect a sofa to wear in less than a year. Fit for purpose to me means at least 5 years before any signs of wear. In my opinion, Castelan provide a sub-standard, unprofessional service. They took over the business from Homeserve, who have a bad reputation and have been fined £30 million for mis-selling. Castellan could be next.
